Stairs, squats and runs, without knee pain.
Knee pain is one of the most common reasons people stop doing what they enjoy. With the right plan, most people get back to it.
Can physiotherapy help knee pain?
Yes. Physiotherapy helps most knee pain, including runner's knee, patellar tendon pain and knee osteoarthritis. At GetFysio in Koramangala, Bengaluru, we assess the whole leg, ease pain early, and build the thigh and hip strength that protects your knee, so you can get back to stairs, squats and running.

You might recognise some of this.
Your knees carry you through every step, stair and squat. When they hurt, it affects almost everything you do, and it is easy to start avoiding movement altogether.
We work out why your knee hurts, ease the pain and rebuild the strength around it, so you can walk, climb, run and play with confidence again.
- Pain at the front of the knee on stairs, squatting or after sitting
- An aching, stiff knee that is worse in the morning
- Pain just below the kneecap when you jump or run
- Swelling, clicking or a sense the knee might give way
- You have been told you have knee osteoarthritis or a meniscus tear
Three parts, one plan.
- 01
Look beyond the knee
Knee pain is often linked to how the hip, ankle and foot are working, and to your training load. We assess the whole leg, not just the sore spot.
- 02
Hands-on care and technology
Manual therapy to ease pain and stiffness. Laser can help calm a painful joint, and shockwave may help long-standing patellar tendon pain.
- 03
Strength that protects the knee
Progressive strengthening for the thigh and hip muscles. It is one of the most effective treatments for most knee problems, including osteoarthritis.
- Shockwave therapyAcoustic pulses for stubborn tendon and heel pain.
- High-intensity laser therapyFocused light to ease pain and inflammation.
- Electrotherapy (TENS and IFT)Gentle electrical currents for pain relief.
Only when your assessment shows it will help, and always alongside hands-on care and exercise.
What recovery usually looks like.
Everyone is different. After your assessment we will give you your own estimate, and review it as you progress.
- Weeks 1–4
Settle pain and swelling, and adjust activity so you can keep moving.
- Weeks 4–12
Build strength and control, and return to stairs, squats and longer walks.
- 3 months +
Back to running and sport, with a plan to keep your knees strong.
Common questions.
Is running bad for my knees?
For most people, no. Running is usually good for knee health. Pain is more often about how much and how quickly you have built up, which we can help you manage.
Can physiotherapy help knee osteoarthritis?
Yes. Exercise and strength work are recommended first-line treatments for knee osteoarthritis, and many people find their pain eases considerably.
Do I need surgery for a meniscus tear?
Many meniscus tears, particularly in people over 35, do well with physiotherapy alone. We will tell you if your knee needs a surgeon's opinion.
